Cygnus X – Superstring (Rank 1 Remix) | Trance Lead Remake in FL Studio (Sensation Anthem 2000)

In this lesson you’ll learn how to remake the “Cygnus X – Superstring (Rank 1 Remix)” trance lead in FL Studio. This characteristic trance lead is made with 3x Osc and FL Studio stock plugins only.

Cygnus X – Superstring (Rank 1 Remix) was a big trance hit back in 2000. It was the anthem of the Sensation white festival that year.

Learn from others, don’t steal from others

It’s always cool to remake (or remix) some stuff. Not to steal other’s ideas, but just to learn how to make things. This allows you to become a better and more all round producer. It learns you how to make sounds, melodies or structures within your application.

How to make this trance lead

To remake this Rank 1 trance lead, you only need some FL Studio stock plugins. I’m using 3x Osc to recreate the synth and some fruity mixer effects, like a chorus, reverb, delay and EQ.

The 3x Osc supersaw

As far as the synthesizer settings go, you want to make a supersaw type of lead. Simply select the saw waveforms, detune each oscillator a bit and make sure to open the “PHASE RAND” knob. Optionally, give your trance lead a little bit of volume release.

The mixer effects settings

For the mixer effects, start with a chorus and use a medium depth with a wide stereo spread. Follow it by a delay and reverb. Again, make sure to pick relative wide settings.

After that, you’ll need an equalizer to shape the sound a certain way. For this specific Rank 1 trance lead, make a big dip around 250 Hz and boost a little bit around 50 Hz and between 2000-8000Hz.

That’s actually all you have to do. You can choose to finish your mixer effects chain with a limiter, compressor or waveshaper if you want to.
