HARDSTYLE BASS | How to Make a Reverse Bass in FL Studio | Early Hardstyle Reverse Bass Tutorial

In this lesson you’ll learn an easy method how to make a reverse bass in FL Studio with FL Studio stock plugins ONLY. A reverse bass is a very typical sound in early hardstyle. To create that early hardstyle reverse bass feeling, I’m using 3x Osc and some fruity mixer effects.

Reverse bass methods

The method of making a reverse bass in this video is just one of many, but it’s an easy one. With this approach you’re very flexible in your design. However, depending on what you’re looking for, you should also explore other methods.

To show you the flexibility and the way such a reverse bass comes to be, I’ll play a bit with the equalizers and filter settings. This is just to show that it’s very easy to manipulate the sound.

How to make a reverse bass with this method

To make an early hardstyle reverse bass with a synthesizer, make sure you route it to the mixer. On the mixer you can add effects to shape the sound.

What’s mostly important here is the combination of equalizing and distorting. With the equalizer you typically want to add a good amount of mid frequencies in the beginning of your effects chain. With the distortion you want to clip the signal to get the aggression/power.

Later in the effects chain, you typically use your equalizer and distortion more gently. Then you’re mostly using them to balance the signal, both in the frequency spectrum and waveform spectrum.

Optionally, you can always add some reverb somewhere in your chain. This gives a sense of space to your sound.

Reverse bass synthesizer

You can also get a certain effect on the synthesizer itself, in this example the 3x Osc. On the 3x Osc, I’ve used a waveform with a good amount of harmonics. This already gives more character to the bass.

Furthermore, I enabled the filter. With the filter you can also create a peak in the mid frequencies. You’re very flexible this way.

Now it’s your turn. Just use this lesson as an idea how to go about making reverse basses. I’m sure you can do much better than the early hardstyle reverse bass this video!
