History of FL Studio features

Starting in 1997, FL Studio has changed from an unofficial hobby project to a worldwide appreciated D.A.W. (Digital Audio Workstation). That’s why, to capture the essence of these remarkable changes, let’s explore all the FL Studio versions and see which features have changed or have been added.

The FL Studio transformation starts at version 1.0 and is currently (at the time of this writing) at version 20. So, what has changed?

FL Studio 1.0 & 2.0 (1997)

  • First release was unofficial
  • VST & LAME support
  • First IL plugins introduced
  • Added automations & playlist

FL Studio 3.0 & 4.0 (2001)

  • Piano roll introduced
  • ASIO support
  • Program can be a VST & DXI
  • Name changed to FL Studio

FL Studio 5.0 & 6.0 (2004)

  • Many small improvements
  • Automations in playlist
  • Loop recording

FL Studio 7.0 & 8.0 (2007)

  • AIFF and OGG support
  • ASIO4ALL is now default
  • Multi-link controllers

FL Studio 9.0 & 10.0 (2009)

  • Performance mode added
  • FL Studio Mobile released

FL Studio 11.0 & 12.0 (2013)
