What is a score file?
Score files (.fsc) store piano roll note data, making it easy to transfer melodies between FL Studio projects or share them with others.
How to export a melody in FL Studio
Once you’ve created a melody you want to reuse or share, exporting it as a score file is simple:
- Open the piano roll containing your melody.
- Click the small arrow (triangle) in the top-left corner of the piano roll.
- Select File > Save score as…
- Choose a name and save location for your .fsc file.
- Click Save.
Your melody is now exported and ready for use in another project.
How to import a melody using score files
Here’s how to import a melody from a score file into FL Studio:
- Open the piano roll for the instrument you want to assign the melody to.
- Click the small arrow (triangle) in the top-left corner.
- Select File > Open score…
- Locate and select the .fsc file.
- Click Open.
The melody will appear in the piano roll and play through your selected instrument.
Import a melody using MIDI files
In addition to score files, MIDI files are an excellent option for importing and exporting melodies. MIDI files store note and instrument data, are widely compatible with most DAWs, and are ideal for sharing musical ideas across different software.
Whether you use score or MIDI files depends on your workflow, but both let you import a melody with ease.
